Gina Carano, the actress known for her role as Cara Dune in the Star Wars spin-off The Mandalorian, has officially settled her lawsuit against Disney and Lucasfilm following her controversial dismissal in 2021.

Carano, a former MMA fighter, was dropped from the series after sharing a social media post that compared being a Republican in the US to being a Jew during the Holocaust. The comments sparked a fierce backlash, with critics accusing her of trivializing historical atrocities. Despite the controversy, Carano remained defiant, asserting her right to free speech, and filed a lawsuit against Disney for wrongful termination and sexual discrimination.

The lawsuit gained further attention and support, notably from Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who funded her legal battle. Carano took to social media, announcing the settlement and expressing her relief, stating, “I hope this brings some healing to the force.” She went on to describe the settlement as the “best outcome for all parties involved” and expressed excitement for the next chapter of her career.

“I’ve never met Elon Musk, but he stepped in to do this ‘Good Samaritan deed’ for me in funding my lawsuit,” Carano shared. “Yes, I’m smiling,” she concluded, signaling her contentment with the outcome.

The exact terms of the settlement remain confidential, but Carano had originally sought $75,000 in damages, as well as a chance to be recast in The Mandalorian. Lucasfilm, which condemned Carano’s remarks in 2021, has since stated that it looks forward to “identifying opportunities to work together” in the future. The company also praised Carano for her professionalism, noting that she was “always well respected by her directors, co-stars, and staff” throughout her time on the series.

Carano, who faced significant public criticism for her outspoken political views—including her anti-mask stance during the Covid-19 pandemic and her false claims of election fraud—had been a polarizing figure in the entertainment industry. Despite the controversy, she has expressed her gratitude for Musk’s financial backing, and remains optimistic about the future.

The settlement marks a new chapter for the actress, who is now free to pursue other opportunities in the entertainment industry.
