The Gombe State Government has earmarked ₦5 billion to support the take-off of a regional airline aimed at boosting air connectivity across Nigeria’s North-East region.
The decision was announced following a recent State Executive Council meeting, where the Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development confirmed Gombe’s contribution to the initiative.
The airline, a joint venture by the six North-East states Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Taraba, and Yobe is designed to address the persistent challenges of air travel in the region, particularly following the withdrawal of several commercial airlines from some routes.
Under the plan, each participating state will contribute ₦5 billion, pooling a total of ₦30 billion to acquire two aircraft for the proposed North-East regional air shuttle. The airline aims to enhance regional mobility, stimulate economic activity, and provide a reliable, locally-owned air transport option.
Officials note that the project, which dates back to 2020 with initial consultancy investments, represents a long-term strategy to revitalize the North-East’s aviation infrastructure and improve connectivity to other parts of the country. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
