Gopichand Hinduja, co-chairman of the Hinduja Group and head of Britain’s richest family, has died at the age of 85.

A towering figure in global business, Hinduja helped transform his family’s modest trading enterprise, founded in India in 1914, into a diversified conglomerate spanning banking, automotive, manufacturing, energy, and real estate. Under his leadership, the Hinduja Group grew to employ around 200,000 people across more than 30 countries.

The Hinduja family has long served as a vital link between British and Indian commerce, with major investments in London property and UK industry. Forbes has consistently ranked the Hindujas as Britain’s wealthiest family, with an estimated fortune exceeding £37 billion in recent years.

Tributes have poured in from business leaders and political figures in both the UK and India, praising Gopichand Hinduja’s vision, philanthropy, and his pivotal role in strengthening India–UK economic and cultural relations.
