A senior chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has affirmed that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State is the party’s national leader, dismissing claims that former presidential candidate Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso holds the position.

The NNPP official explained that Kwankwaso was the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, but the arrangement ended after the election following the expiration of the Memorandum of Association between the NNPP and the Kwankwasiya Movement.

He said references to Kwankwaso as national leader by some quarters had caused confusion and clarified that only the NNPP’s National Executive Committee and founder, Dr Boniface Aniebonam, have the authority to negotiate or make decisions on behalf of the party.

The statement also noted that some members of the Kwankwasiya Movement, including Kwankwaso, were expelled from the party for anti‑party activities, and suggested they should join another party or form a new political platform.
