Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has refuted speculations about his possible defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring that he remains committed to the party and has no intention of joining either the All Progressives Congress (APC) or the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, the governor described the reports as mere rumours, reaffirming his status as a PDP card-carrying member.

Governor Lawal dismissed claims that political pressure or internal party issues might prompt his exit from the PDP, stating that even in 2023, when he faced stiff opposition from powerful political figures in the state, he emerged victorious without switching allegiance. He emphasized that he is unafraid of political rivals like former governors Sani Yerima and Bello Matawalle, expressing confidence in defeating them again if necessary in the 2027 elections.

While acknowledging ongoing challenges within the PDP, Governor Lawal noted that internal reconciliation efforts are underway and that unity will soon be restored. He also confirmed having a cordial relationship with President Bola Tinubu despite their different party affiliations but insisted that governance, not politics, should be the priority for now. “There’s still time before 2027,” he added, suggesting that discussions about future elections are premature at this stage.
