Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has mandated Julius Berger Nigeria PLC to complete the 9.7-kilometer Ogbakiri Town road dualization project within eight months, citing the project’s vital socio-economic benefits for local communities.

Governor Fubara awarded the N15 billion project, which begins at the Emohua spur on the East-West Road and runs through six communities, ending at the Egbelu-Oduoha-Ogbakiri waterside. During an inspection on Tuesday, he announced that 30% of the project cost—around N4.5 billion—had already been disbursed to mobilize the construction.

The governor emphasized the importance of creating a seamless connection between communities, stating, “This is not a 1km road. It is a 9.7km road that will transform the lives of the people here.” He also revealed plans to construct a bridge that will further link the road to neighboring riverine communities.

This project comes amid Julius Berger’s ongoing challenges with the Federal Government over contract negotiations, including a recent revocation of their Abuja-Kaduna road contract.

Additionally, Governor Fubara visited Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic in Rumuola, where he commended ongoing projects, including a new Entrepreneurship Centre, staff offices, and a Senate Building, lauding the institution’s progress toward growth and modernization.
