In a bold move to boost youth engagement in agriculture, the Ekiti State Government has presented ₦1 billion in cheques to young farmers across the state. The event, held at Osuntokun Pavilion, Government House, Ado Ekiti, was led by Governor Biodun Oyebanji.
The initiative, part of the state’s “Bring Back the Youth into Agriculture” programme, saw 4,657 young farmers rewarded for their efforts during the 2025 harvest season. Individual cheques ranged from ₦500,000 to ₦1.5 million, based on performance.
Governor Oyebanji emphasized that the programme aims to transform agriculture from subsistence activity to a profitable business, creating jobs, improving livelihoods, and enhancing food security. Beneficiaries were urged to reinvest their profits, adopt modern agricultural technologies, and expand their operations.
The governor’s Chief of Staff, Niyi Adebayo, commended the farmers for their dedication, discipline, and adoption of best farming practices, noting that the awards serve as recognition for their hard work and contribution to the state’s economy.
This move reinforces Ekiti State’s commitment to youth empowerment and sustainable agribusiness development, positioning agriculture as a viable career path for the younger generation. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
