In the wake of a trending video allegedly released by a member of his family regarding the death of his wife, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has issued a firm statement reaffirming that his family remains united. Eno emphasized that such viral insinuations and attempts at character assassination will not divert his focus from his primary mission: executing the ARISE Agenda and upholding his social contract with the people of Akwa Ibom.
Eno addressed the controversy while speaking to reporters at the Ibom Hotel and Golf Resort in Uyo on Saturday, where he had arrived to attend the 60th birthday celebration of former deputy governor, Obong Nsima Ekere.
‘My Family Remains United’
The governor’s comments come in response to a video circulating online, suggesting discord within his family. He was quick to dismiss these claims, stating, “We are in political times, so you can expect more of that. My family is intact, and you can see everyone here with me.”
Referring to the video, which dates back to the period immediately following the passing of his wife, Patience Umo Eno, the governor questioned why it had resurfaced just as the state marks the second anniversary of her death. “Why is it surfacing and trending now? Why is it on the eve of the second anniversary, when we are celebrating the milestones we have achieved?” he asked.
A Call for Public Restraint
Governor Eno went on to discuss the personal toll the loss of a loved one takes, particularly on children. “The pressure on the children when they lose a loved one can be traumatic, and we must recognise that,” he said. He appealed to the public to refrain from reigniting painful memories, stating, “It is enough that I have lost my wife, and I pray that they allow her peaceful soul to rest in peace.”
Despite the ongoing media attention, Eno vowed to remain undistracted in his duties. “I cannot be distracted. I remain focused, and I will continue to serve the people of Akwa Ibom,” he affirmed. He also addressed those spreading the rumors, adding, “I do not wish what happened to me on anyone. So, to those spreading these rumours, if that is what they wish for themselves, I wish them luck.”
Celebrating Ekere’s 60th
On a more positive note, Governor Eno congratulated Obong Nsima Ekere on his 60th birthday. He prayed for continued strength, good health, and wisdom for Ekere to continue contributing to the state’s development.
In a time of political tension and personal grief, Governor Umo Eno has demonstrated resilience, asserting that nothing will derail his commitment to serving the people of Akwa Ibom.
