Governors across Nigeria have stepped up efforts to improve welfare and support for families of fallen military personnel, reaffirming their commitment to honour the sacrifices of servicemen and women who lost their lives in the line of duty.

The renewed pledges were made during activities marking the Armed Forces Remembrance Day, where state governors acknowledged the bravery and patriotism of members of the Armed Forces and other security agencies. They stressed that supporting the families left behind is both a moral obligation and a national responsibility.

Several governors announced concrete measures, including financial assistance, employment opportunities for children of fallen heroes, educational scholarships, access to healthcare, and economic empowerment programmes for widows and dependants. Some states also raised funds to support legionnaires and families of deceased personnel.

The governors called on Nigerians, corporate organisations, and well-meaning individuals to complement government efforts by supporting initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of military veterans and families of fallen heroes.

They reaffirmed that the sacrifices of fallen heroes would not be forgotten, pledging sustained support to ensure their families live dignified and secure lives.
