With immediate effect, the metropolitan areas of Kaduna and Zaria are under a 24-hour curfew enforced by the Kaduna State administration. Following an evaluation of the state’s security situation by Governor Uba Sani, the decision was made during an emergency security council meeting.
Samuel Aruwan, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, stated in a statement that the curfew was implemented because criminal elements had taken over the demonstration and were looting stores and destroying both public and private property in the state.
While security personnel continued to preserve safety and order, the statement advised the public to stay indoors.
