Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola said on Monday he remains unsure when Spain midfielder Rodri will be fit to return.

Rodri, who missed much of last season with a knee injury, has played only one minute in City’s last 10 matches due to a hamstring issue. The 29-year-old has been ruled out of Tuesday’s Premier League trip to Fulham and is doubtful for Saturday’s home game against Sunderland.

Asked if Rodri was available, Guardiola replied: “No, not yet.” When pressed on whether he could feature at the weekend, he added: “I don’t know.”

Guardiola also addressed goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma’s disciplinary record after the Italian received his fourth booking in City’s dramatic 3-2 win over Leeds. Leeds boss Daniel Farke accused Donnarumma of feigning injury to allow Guardiola to give a tactical talk. The goalkeeper is now one yellow card away from suspension.

“Yes, he has many bookings,” Guardiola said. “It is what it is.” He added he has not spoken to Donnarumma about the issue.

The City boss was more expansive when praising Fulham manager Marco Silva following their impressive 2-1 win at Tottenham.

“Marco has been there many years, and it’s always really tough against his teams,” Guardiola said. “Their organisation is exceptional, and every year they are better with the ball. A very, very tough opponent.

“Watching their recent games against Chelsea, Arsenal, Sunderland — it’s always difficult to break them down, especially at Craven Cottage.”
