In a groundbreaking move to enhance professionalism and communication within the Federal Civil Service, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, OON, mni, has inaugurated a committee tasked with developing a comprehensive Style Manual for the service.

During the inauguration ceremony, Mrs. Walson-Jack emphasized the critical role of effective communication in governance, calling it “the lifeblood of effective administration.” She stressed that clear, consistent communication is essential in a service as vast and diverse as the Federal Civil Service, and the establishment of this committee represents a crucial step toward modernizing and professionalizing the sector.

“This initiative reaffirms our commitment to clarity, professionalism, consistency, and accountability in all our engagements, both internal and external,” Mrs. Walson-Jack said, outlining the broader goals of the project. The Style Manual, once developed, will serve as a standardized framework for official communication across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), setting clear guidelines on fonts, templates, stationery, and writing styles to ensure cohesion and professionalism in all documentation.
She expressed confidence in the committee’s ability to deliver a high-quality manual, acknowledging the challenging nature of the task but trusting the expertise of its members to create a lasting legacy for future generations of civil servants.
Dr. Deborah Odoh, the Permanent Secretary of the Service Policies and Strategies Office, reiterated the Federal Civil Service’s commitment to the successful implementation of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021–2025 (FCSSIP-25), noting that the Style Manual aligns with the broader vision of creating a world-class, efficient, and professional civil service that drives national development.
In response, Mr. Adesola Olusade, the chairman of the newly formed committee and retired Permanent Secretary of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the team. He assured the audience of the committee’s dedication to meeting the high standards expected of them.
Dr. Mimi Abu, Director of the Organisation Design and Development Department, delivered the vote of thanks, commending Mrs. Walson-Jack for her visionary leadership and underscoring the importance of the initiative in shaping an exemplary public service.
The inauguration of the Style Manual Committee marks a significant milestone in Mrs. Walson-Jack’s “Marching to Greatness: Celebrating 100 Days” agenda, highlighting her administration’s commitment to transforming the Federal Civil Service into a modern, professional institution.
