Torrential monsoon rains have triggered floods and landslides across northern India, leaving over 130 people dead in August.

The Yamuna river in Delhi crossed the 207-metre danger mark, only the fifth time since 1963. Authorities evacuated 10,000+ residents from low-lying areas and deployed boats, pumps, and sandbags as floodwaters rose.

In Punjab, 30 lives have been lost and vast farmland destroyed, while Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir reported fresh casualties from landslides and house collapses.

The India Meteorological Department has issued red alerts, warning of more heavy rain until September 5. Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi remain on high flood alert as swollen rivers continue to threaten towns and farms.
