Hon. Musa Sarkin Adar has officially assumed office as the new Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI), pledging to drive a fresh wave of reforms aimed at strengthening transparency and accountability in the country’s extractive sector.
Speaking during his assumption of office, Adar described the NEITI Act 2007 as outdated and in need of urgent amendment to empower the agency with stronger legal authority for compliance enforcement, improved oversight, and enhanced collaboration with key institutions across the oil, gas, and mining industries. He emphasized that updating the Act is central to Nigeria’s preparation for its next global EITI validation scheduled for July 2026.
The new Executive Secretary outlined a reform agenda focused on boosting institutional visibility, tackling revenue leakages, promoting value-addition in the solid minerals sector, improving staff capacity, and strengthening partnerships with government agencies, civil society organisations, the media, and development partners.
Adar reaffirmed NEITI’s commitment to delivering credible, accessible, and data-driven reports that will reinforce public trust in Nigeria’s natural resource governance.
