The House of Representatives has extended its heartfelt congratulations to Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, on his victory in the recently concluded Edo State Governorship election.

The House also congratulated Rep. Dennis Idahosa, the APC Deputy Governorship candidate, who currently serves as the lawmaker representing Ovia Federal Constituency and as Chairman of the House Committee on Healthcare Services in the 10th Assembly.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the APC as the winner of the highly contested gubernatorial election on Sunday, solidifying the party’s leadership in the state.

Speaking on behalf of the House, Speaker Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, praised both the Governor-elect and Deputy Governor-elect for their success. He noted that the election outcome reflects the will of the people of Edo State.

“Edo people have spoken with their votes,” Speaker Abbas stated, emphasizing the desire of the electorate for positive change and progress. He also highlighted the role of Rep. Idahosa’s election as a Deputy Governor-elect, pointing out the increasing influence of parliamentarians in shaping governance and Nigerian politics.

The Speaker urged both Okpebholo and Idahosa to collaborate for the common good of the people, stressing the importance of their role as “ambassadors of the National Assembly” and encouraging them to champion policies that would foster development in Edo State.

As the newly elected leaders prepare to assume their duties, Speaker Abbas called for magnanimity in victory, urging them to extend a hand of fellowship to their opponents in order to promote unity and peace within the state. He further appealed to the people of Edo to respect the democratic outcome, which represents the collective decision of the majority.

The House of Representatives reaffirmed its commitment to promoting democracy and good governance and expressed optimism about the contributions Senator Okpebholo and Rep. Idahosa will bring to their new roles in advancing the state’s development.
