The Public Accounts Committee of the House of Representatives has dismissed media reports suggesting that the Speaker, Abbas Tajudeen, accused the current administration of reckless borrowing or unsubstantiated debt.
Clarifying the matter, the committee stated that the Speaker, represented by the House Majority Leader, Julius Ihonvbere, at the West African Association of Public Accounts Committee Annual Conference, did not criticize Nigeria’s debt profile.
Instead, the Speaker urged members of public accounts committees from West African countries to strengthen their oversight of public debt expenditure, emphasizing the importance of ensuring accountability, transparency, and value for money in the management of public resources.
