Hurricane Kiko Strengthens, Lorena Soaks Mexico and U.S. Southwest

The eastern Pacific is active with two storms: Hurricane Kiko and Tropical Storm Lorena.

Hurricane Kiko has intensified to a Category 4 hurricane with winds near 140 mph, about 1,500 miles east of Hawaii. While not an immediate land threat, it could bring high surf, gusty winds, and rain to Hawaii in coming days.

Tropical Storm Lorena has weakened but continues to dump heavy rain across Baja California and Sonora, with up to 15 inches possible. The U.S. Southwest, including Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas, faces flood watches as Lorena’s remnants move inland.

Key takeaway: Hawaii should monitor Kiko closely, while Mexico and the U.S. Southwest brace for flooding from Lorena.
