The First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has made a passionate appeal for lasting peace in Plateau State, urging community elders and all stakeholders to take every necessary step to end the cycle of violence in the region.
Speaking during a visit to the state on behalf of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), the First Lady emphasized that her mission was driven by compassion, solidarity, and a deep desire to see healing in Plateau.
“I come as a mother whose heart bleeds. I assure you this will be the last time I have to visit this state for this kind of intervention, and I pray God will honor that. Do not give room to the serpent to enter the edge and assault you. Mend the broken edge. This is enough,” she said.
Reflecting on the state’s potential, she shared a heartfelt moment from her arrival:
“Nigeria is a beautiful country. The little girl that welcomed me at the airport said, ‘Welcome to the land of peace and tourism.’ I pray it truly becomes so.”
In her message to the men of the community, Senator Tinubu urged them to protect women and children, encouraging them to support livelihoods such as farming and trading.
“Whatever it takes, bring peace to this land,” she said.
To the youth, she issued a stirring call for unity and patriotism, reminding them of the second stanza of the national anthem: “Nigeria must hand over a banner without stain” to the next generation.
As part of her visit, the First Lady, through the Renewed Hope Initiative, donated ₦1 billion to victims of the recent clashes in the state, alongside food items and clothing materials to support affected families.
In his remarks, Plateau State Governor Barr. Caleb Mutfwang thanked the First Lady for her intervention and pledged responsible and transparent management of the funds.
“Wherever the edge has been broken, we will mend it. We will make peace with all men,” he stated.
“I take full responsibility for the funds you have brought to us. I pledge that we will not hold back. We will disburse it to those for whom it is meant, and no elite will hijack it.”
Also present at the event were the Wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima, members of the Plateau State Council of Traditional Rulers, religious leaders, market associations, youth groups, and representatives of security agencies.
