Former President Muhammadu Buhari has reaffirmed his commitment to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), vowing to promote the party across Nigeria.

Buhari made this declaration in a statement issued by his spokesperson, Garba Shehu, on Thursday, amid speculations of defections from the party.

“I am an APC member and I like to be addressed as such. I will try to popularise the party by all means,” Buhari was quoted as saying.

Buhari’s Commitment to APC

The former president, who led Nigeria under the APC banner from 2015 to 2023, dismissed any doubts about his political allegiance. Without mentioning any specific individual or issue, Buhari reiterated that he remains a loyal member of the APC and has no intention of turning his back on the party that twice brought him to power.

He expressed gratitude for the unwavering support of the APC during his tenure, describing it as an honor.

“I have nothing but gratitude for the support that the party gave me before and during my tenure as president, which I consider as the highest honor, and I would never ask for anything more.”

Buhari further emphasized the importance of preserving the founding principles of the APC, urging members to uphold democracy and constitutional governance.

“The pains taken by the founding fathers to establish a strong party to protect our constitution and democracy as a system of government are worthy sacrifices that should be cherished and nurtured.”

APC and Political Landscape in Nigeria

Buhari’s remarks come at a time when Nigeria’s political landscape is witnessing shifts, with rumors of notable figures considering defection from the APC. His statement reinforces his continued influence within the party and signals his commitment to strengthening its grassroots support.
