The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has commenced online pre-registration of voters as the first phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise ahead of the 2027 general elections. Eligible Nigerians can now register via the portal www.cvr.inecnigeria.org, where they will fill in personal details and book appointments to complete the process in person.
The commission explained that applicants can also use the portal to transfer their voting locations, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), or correct personal information. INEC further announced that in-person registration will begin on August 25, 2025, at all 37 state offices and 774 local government area offices across the country, before being extended to additional centres.
INEC emphasized that the exercise is strictly for Nigerians aged 18 and above, while cautioning against multiple registrations, which attract penalties. The CVR will run for several months, with a preliminary voter register to be published for public scrutiny before the final list of eligible voters is released for the 2027 polls.
