The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the Kaura-Namoda South State Constituency by-election in Zamfara State inconclusive due to irregularities in five polling units.

Professor Lawal Sa’adu, the Returning Officer from the Federal University Gusau, announced the decision, citing issues in Sakajiki and Kyambarawa wards. The margin between the two leading parties—the All Progressives Congress (APC) with 7,001 votes and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with 5,339 votes—is 1,662, which is less than the 3,265 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) collected in the affected polling units.

The canceled polling units include two in Sakajiki Ward with 1,298 collected PVCs and three in Kyambarawa Ward with 1,964 collected PVCs. According to INEC, the Electoral Act 2022 mandates that if the margin of lead is less than the number of collected PVCs in canceled areas, the election cannot be concluded until a rerun is conducted.

INEC has stated that a new date for the rerun election in the affected polling units will be announced in due course.
