The Federal Ministry of Education has debunked reports claiming that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is no longer required for admission into tertiary institutions in Nigeria.
In a statement signed by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Bonu Boriowo Folasade, the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, described the report as false and baseless, stressing that it did not originate from the Ministry. He clarified that at no point did the Ministry issue or authorize any statement suggesting that JAMB has been removed from the admission process.
Dr. Alausa reaffirmed that JAMB remains the legally empowered body responsible for conducting entrance examinations and coordinating admissions into all tertiary institutions across the country. He urged the public, especially students, parents, and institutions, to disregard any contrary publication and to rely only on official channels of the Ministry and JAMB for verified information.
The Minister also emphasized the Federal Government’s continued collaboration with JAMB and other education agencies to maintain transparency, fairness, and credibility in the admission process. He cautioned media organizations, bloggers, and online platforms to always verify information from official sources before publication to prevent misinformation and public confusion.
The Ministry reiterated that there has been no change in JAMB’s role, which remains central and indispensable in Nigeria’s tertiary education system. Members of the public are encouraged to visit the official websites and social media handles of the Ministry of Education and JAMB for authentic updates on educational matters.
