Jigawa Charts Roadmap to End Farmers-Herders Clashes

Share

Stakeholders in Jigawa State have unveiled a roadmap to address recurring clashes between farmers and herders, which have caused deaths, injuries, and property damage in areas like Kirikasamma, Maigatari, and Guri.
The one-day seminar, organized by the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), brought together community leaders, herders’ groups, security agencies, and traditional authorities.
Key measures include:
Dialogue and awareness between farmers and herders.
Education on grazing routes and forest reserves to reduce land disputes.
Government support through law enforcement and modern animal husbandry.
Grassroots peacebuilding via traditional and religious leaders.
Groups such as Miyetti Allah and other Fulani organizations pledged cooperation, while authorities promised stricter enforcement against offenders. The initiative aims to prevent incidents like the December 2025 clash in Yelwan Musari village, which left two farmers dead.
With these steps, Jigawa hopes to secure lasting peace and protect both farming and herding communities. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
