The Jigawa State Government and El‑Meena Farms Ltd have launched a $540 million alfalfa export initiative in partnership with Saudi Arabia’s Alkhorayef Group. The project aims to position Jigawa as a major supplier of high-protein livestock feed to the Middle East.
The initiative plans to cultivate up to 100,000 hectares, starting with a 1,000-hectare pilot, using advanced irrigation systems. Officials say the project will create thousands of jobs, boost livestock productivity, and strengthen economic ties with GCC countries.
The venture is backed by NEXIM Bank and Saudi EXIM Bank, providing financing for infrastructure and exports. Alfalfa, a nutrient-rich fodder crop, is in high demand in water-scarce regions, and Jigawa’s fertile lands are expected to meet this growing global need. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
