The Jigawa State Government has approved ₦396 million for the purchase of fertiliser allocated to the state under the Federal Government’s special intervention programme.

The allocation includes 20 trucks of NPK fertiliser amounting to 12,000 bags to be supplied to farmers at a subsidised price of ₦33,000 per bag.

Announcing the approval, the State Commissioner for Information, Youth, Sports and Culture, Sagir Musa, said the initiative is designed to strengthen Jigawa’s 2025/2026 Dry Season Agricultural Programme. He noted that the support will particularly benefit smallholder farmers, who form the backbone of the state’s agricultural sector.

Musa explained that the intervention aligns with Governor Umar Namadi’s agricultural transformation agenda, while also complementing President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” policy, which prioritises food security and self-sufficiency.

With agriculture serving as the mainstay of Jigawa’s economy, the state government believes the fertiliser support will enhance productivity, ensure better yields, and boost farmers’ livelihoods during the coming dry season.
