Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, alongside prominent political leaders and dignitaries from across Nigeria, attended a colourful ceremony in Zaria, Kaduna State, on Saturday, where the Emir of Zazzau, His Highness Ambassador Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli, conferred the prestigious title of Sardauna Zazzau on former Vice President Namadi Sambo.

The event, held at the Emir’s Palace in the ancient city of Zaria, attracted a large gathering of traditional rulers, serving and former government officials, members of the diplomatic corps, and politicians from within and outside Kaduna State.

Namadi Sambo, who served as Governor of Kaduna State before becoming Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (2010–2015), was honoured in recognition of his years of public service, contribution to national unity, and efforts toward peace and development in Northern Nigeria.

Former President Jonathan, in his goodwill message, congratulated the new Sardauna of Zazzau, describing him as a man of integrity and humility who has continued to contribute to the growth and stability of the nation even after leaving office.

Other dignitaries present included former governors, ministers, lawmakers, top military officers, and representatives of various cultural and religious groups, all of whom commended the Emir for recognizing Sambo’s enduring legacy and leadership qualities.

In his acceptance remarks, Sambo expressed gratitude to the Emir of Zazzau and the people of the emirate for the honour bestowed upon him. He pledged to continue serving humanity and promoting unity, peace, and development across Nigeria.

The Emir of Zazzau, Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli, noted that the title of Sardauna Zazzau carries great historical importance and is reserved for distinguished individuals who have rendered outstanding service to the emirate, the state, and the nation.

The ceremony was marked by cultural displays, royal pageantry, and tributes to the former Vice President, making it one of the most significant traditional events in recent times in Northern Nigeria.
