Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has declared Wednesday, August 20, 2025, as a work-free day for all public servants in the state. The holiday is in commemoration of the annual Isese Day celebration, a festival that honors the rich culture and traditions of the Yoruba people.

The declaration is aimed at giving practitioners of the Yoruba traditional religion and culture the opportunity to mark the day with various activities across the state. Isese Day has become an annual occasion observed in several Yoruba-speaking states, with Lagos joining to officially recognize the cultural heritage.

With the declaration, government offices across Lagos will be closed on the day, while residents are expected to celebrate responsibly and in line with public order. The government also encouraged Lagosians to use the occasion to reflect on the values of peace, unity, and cultural pride.
