Former Labour Party presidential candidate and ex-Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has confirmed he will contest the 2027 presidential election, firmly dismissing any possibility of serving as a running mate.
Obi made the declaration on Sunday night during an X Spaces discussion with supporters, where he openly clarified his political intentions and long-term ambitions.
“I am not travelling round the world to learn governance to be Vice President,” Obi said, stressing that his years of preparation were aimed solely at leading Nigeria as president.
Expressing confidence in his credentials, Obi added, “I know how to turn Nigeria around. I built my business from scratch and have more experience than any candidate, including the sitting President.”
The former governor assured supporters of his presence on the ballot, stating clearly: “Peter Obi will be on the ballot in 2027.” He concluded with a call for backing, saying, “I need your support. I need your prayers.”
Obi’s declaration is expected to reshape early political calculations ahead of the 2027 general elections, reigniting enthusiasm among his supporters while setting the stage for what promises to be a highly competitive race.
