Golf legend Tiger Woods announced Monday that he will not compete in this week’s Genesis Invitational at Torrey Pines, citing that he is “just not ready” following the recent passing of his mother, Kultida Woods.

Woods had initially committed to the PGA Tour event, which he hosts, marking his first professional tournament in seven months. However, in a statement shared on social media, the 15-time major champion explained his decision to withdraw.

“I planned to tee it up this week, but I’m just not ready,” Woods said. “I did my best to prepare, knowing it’s what my Mom would have wanted, but I’m still processing her loss. Thanks to everyone who has reached out. I hope to be at Torrey later in the week and appreciate the continued kindness since my Mom’s passing.”

Woods last competed at The Open Championship in July and underwent back surgery in September. He returned to the course in December alongside his 15-year-old son, Charlie, at the PNC Championship family event.

The 49-year-old has a storied history at Torrey Pines, with eight career victories, including his legendary 2008 U.S. Open win despite playing with a broken leg.

This year’s Genesis Invitational was relocated from Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles to Torrey Pines due to the impact of recent wildfires on the Pacific Palisades community.
