Vice President Kashim Shettima has commended the Kaduna State Government for pioneering the establishment of a Council on Skills, describing the initiative as a national model for workforce development, youth employment, and inclusive economic growth.
In a letter addressed to Governor Uba Sani, the Vice President, who also chairs the National Council on Skills, praised the successful inauguration of the council, noting that it represents a strategic institutional response to Nigeria’s human capital and unemployment challenges.
He said the initiative sets a benchmark for sub-national governments and highlighted Kaduna State’s efforts as a significant milestone in advancing coordinated skills development across the federation.
Shettima emphasised that the creation of a dedicated institutional framework for skills development demonstrates a proactive commitment to addressing the unemployment gap and fostering human capital development in line with national objectives.
He further described the Kaduna initiative as evidence of an integrated vision for economic transformation, noting that it supports a bottom-up approach to skills acquisition and ensures that vocational and technical training initiatives effectively reach grassroots communities.
The Vice President also called for sustained collaboration between the National Secretariat and the Kaduna State Council to harmonise standards and expand the impact of ongoing interventions.
The commendation followed deliberations at a recent session of the National Council on Skills, where Kaduna State’s initiative was recognised as a major policy milestone.
