Kano Assembly Initiates Impeachment of Deputy Governor

The Kano State House of Assembly has officially initiated impeachment proceedings against the Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, citing allegations of gross misconduct, abuse of office, and breach of public trust. The formal notice, signed by a majority of lawmakers, follows provisions in Section 188 of the 1999 Constitution.

The move comes after weeks of political tension between Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and his deputy. Earlier, the Assembly had denied rumors of any impeachment plan, calling reports “baseless.” Political analysts say the split stems from Governor Yusuf’s defection to the APC, while the deputy governor has remained aligned with his original party.

The impeachment process is now expected to proceed according to constitutional procedures, including hearings and votes by assembly members.
