Kano Court Directs Hisbah to Facilitate TikTokers’ Marriage Within 60 Days

A Kano State court has ordered the Hisbah Board to ensure that two TikTok influencers, Mai Wushirya and Basira Yar Guda Daya, get married within 60 days. Magistrate Halima Wali of Court No. 7 delivered the ruling and also directed the Kano State Censorship Board to monitor the process to ensure compliance with the court’s order.

The court warned that failure to conduct the marriage within the stipulated timeframe would result in both parties being brought back before the court for further legal action. This ruling follows earlier arrests after video clips showing the two individuals in what authorities described as “immoral and demeaning acts” went viral online. Mai Wushirya was initially remanded in a correctional centre for two weeks as the case progressed.

The latest directive emphasizes that the marriage must comply with both Islamic and legal provisions, with the Hisbah Board tasked with overseeing the arrangements. The court’s intervention underscores the state’s approach to addressing cases involving online content deemed inappropriate while promoting socially acceptable resolutions.

As of press time, neither the Hisbah Board nor the Kano State Censorship Board had issued an official response to the court’s order.
