A school district in Kansas has announced an early start to its winter vacation, sending students and staff home sooner than planned due to a rapid outbreak of illness.
Officials at Dexter Schools USD #471 said the decision was taken after a growing number of students and employees fell sick, making it difficult to maintain normal school operations. According to the district, the rate of infection escalated quickly, prompting concerns about health and safety.
The school principal revealed that the situation extended beyond students, with staff members also affected by severe symptoms, including vomiting and diarrhea. The extent of the illnesses, officials said, left the district with little choice but to suspend activities and move the winter break forward.
School authorities noted that the early closure was intended to limit further spread of the illness and allow time for recovery before classes resume.
