The Katsina State Police Command announced on Sunday that it had successfully thwarted a kidnap attempt along the Funtua-Gusau Highway, rescuing ten victims—including two drivers and eight passengers—without injury.

According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, the incident occurred on April 19, 2025, at approximately 9:35 p.m. when the Faskari Division received intelligence that suspected armed bandits had ambushed two vehicles at Marabar Bangori village.

The targeted vehicles—a black Golf Saloon (BWR 781 SW) and an ash-colored Golf (DTM 179 TA)—were traveling from Katsina to Faskari when the ambush occurred. Upon receiving the distress call, a patrol team from the Faskari Division responded immediately, engaging the attackers in a gun battle.

“The bandits were overpowered and forced to retreat into the nearby bush, abandoning their mission. All ten victims were safely rescued,” Sadiq said. He added that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects and that investigations are underway.

Commissioner of Police, Bello Shehu, commended the officers involved for their swift and professional response, which he noted was instrumental in saving lives. He reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to protecting the lives and property of Katsina residents.

Easter Message: RCCG Pastor Urges Love, Sacrifice, and Spiritual Renewal

Meanwhile, in a separate Easter message, Pastor Olawale Oluwabusola, Zonal Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) in Katsina State, called on both leaders and followers to embrace a life of love and sacrifice in the spirit of Christ’s example.

Speaking during an Easter Sunday interview with Channels Television, Oluwabusola emphasized the significance of Easter as a time of spiritual renewal and reflection. He urged Christians to deepen their walk with God and focus on their eternal journey.

“Easter marks the end of 100 days of fasting and prayer declared at the start of the year. It is a powerful reminder of God’s unconditional love and sacrifice through Jesus Christ,” he said. Citing John 4:24, he added, “God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth.”

The pastor described salvation as a lifelong Christian journey toward eternity, noting that Easter offers believers a critical opportunity for introspection and recommitment to faith and service.
