Workers in state-owned tertiary institutions in Katsina have issued a two-week strike notice to the Katsina State Government to press for overdue salary adjustments and better welfare conditions. The notice, effective from December 29, 2025, was announced by the Joint Consultative Forum (JCF) a coalition of academic and non-academic staff unions.
Union leaders say the government has failed to implement previously agreed pay increases including a proposed 35 % raise for academic staff and 25 % for non-academic workers resulting in growing salary arrears and frustration among employees.
In addition, the forum criticised the state’s contributory healthcare scheme as inadequate, and warned that rising school fees are reducing student enrolment.
The unions have given the government two weeks to respond meaningfully or risk a full work stoppage across Katsina’s colleges and polytechnics. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
