In a bid to enhance the quality of education, the Kebbi State Government has recruited 2,000 teachers to fill critical teaching positions across the state.
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Halima Muhammad-Bande, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Birnin Kebbi. Speaking during the presentation of appointment letters to newly recruited teachers on Friday, she emphasized the government’s commitment to improving learning standards.
Recruitment Process and Selection Criteria
According to Muhammad-Bande, who also serves as the chairman of the recruitment committee, 391 teachers were shortlisted in the first batch. These candidates, holding degrees, Higher National Diplomas (HND), and postgraduate qualifications, will be deployed to post-basic schools across the state.
She further confirmed that another list of recruited teachers would soon be released, primarily consisting of candidates with a National Certificate in Education (NCE).
The commissioner revealed that the Teacher Recruitment Committee received a total of 18,000 applications, out of which 4,000 applicants were screened.
Commitment to Quality Education
Muhammad-Bande urged the newly recruited teachers to be diligent in their duties and contribute significantly to the development of education in Kebbi State.
“A teacher in Kebbi is a king because the governor is a teacher who knows the value of teaching. Our governor assured that this is the first tranche of the teacher-recruitment exercise; others will follow soon,” she stated.
Government and Legislative Support
Chairman of the Kebbi House Committee on Education, Muhammad Garba-Bena, commended Governor Nasir Idris for his unwavering support, which facilitated a smooth recruitment process.
“We are happy that this is happening at a time when a teacher is in control. This recruitment exercise will continue until we have enough teachers in our schools. Therefore, I urge those candidates who were not successful this time to be patient,” Garba-Bena said.
Similarly, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Abubakar Magaji-Nayilwa, encouraged the new teachers to give their best in service to the state and the nation.
A Step Towards Bridging the Education Gap
This massive recruitment drive underscores the Kebbi State Government’s commitment to addressing the teacher shortage and improving educational standards. With the governor’s continued investment in human capital development, Kebbi State aims to set a benchmark for quality education in Nigeria.
