Kenya’s Edwin Kibet, Ethiopia’s Guta Meseret Hirpa Win 2025 Lagos City Marathon

The 2025 edition of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon has once again been dominated by East African runners, with athletes from Kenya and Ethiopia claiming top honors in both the men’s and women’s categories.

Kenya’s Edwin Kibet emerged victorious in the men’s race on Saturday, finishing in 2 hours, 14 minutes, and 6 seconds to claim the $50,000 prize. Kibet, who placed third in last year’s edition, improved on his performance to take the top spot. He finished ahead of last year’s champion, Bernard Sang, and fellow Kenyan Cheprot.

In the women’s category, Ethiopia’s Guta Meseret Hirpa clinched victory with a time of 2 hours, 37 minutes, and 4 seconds, further cementing East Africa’s dominance in the marathon.
