The Kwara State Teaching Service Commission has shortlisted 1,800 candidates for teaching appointments across the state’s senior secondary schools.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Commission, Mr. Sam Onile, and made available to journalists in Ilorin.
According to the statement, the successful applicants were selected following a rigorous screening process, which included a computer-based test (CBT) and interviews conducted over a three-month period.
“The shortlisted comprises 790 (44%) for STEM subjects; 581 for core subjects; 370 for specialised subjects; and 59 for technical subjects.
They will be assigned to senior secondary schools across the 16 local government areas of the state in line with the needs assessment of the commission,” Onile stated.
Onile urged applicants who participated in the interview phase to verify their status on the commission’s official recruitment portal. He further noted that all shortlisted candidates must undergo a mandatory drug test to determine their suitability to teach school children.
“The drug test will be carried out by the NDLEA and coordinated by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Drugs Abuse, Prevention and Control, Hon. Mukail Aileru,” he added.
Drug Test Schedule and Local Government Breakdown:
- Wednesday, April 9: Baruten, Edu, Kaiama, Patigi
- Thursday, April 10: Ekiti, Ifelodun, Irepodun, Isin
- Friday, April 11: Offa, Oke Ero, Oyun, Moro
- Saturday, April 12: Asa, Ilorin East, Ilorin South, Ilorin West
“The test certificates will be submitted directly to the commission by NDLEA to prevent any form of alteration,” Onile said.
He further announced that successful candidates must sign a six-year non-transfer bond, aimed at addressing the shortage of teachers in rural areas.
Applicants are also required to present medical certificates from any state government hospital, alongside the originals and photocopies of their academic credentials during documentation.
“They will also submit handwritten letters of acceptance of the job offer, while other conditions of service will be spelt out during the documentation process,” he concluded.
