Real Madrid’s away match against Valencia in La Liga, scheduled for this weekend, was postponed by the Spanish football federation on Thursday due to severe flooding that has claimed over 95 lives.
Additionally, Villarreal’s home game against Rayo Vallecano has also been suspended amid the destructive flash floods affecting eastern Spain.
La Liga requested the RFEF to delay the matches involving Valencia and Villarreal, along with three second division fixtures from impacted regions.
The RFEF stated, “It has been agreed to postpone matches across both professional and non-professional competitions, including 11-a-side and indoor football in the Valencia region.”
Several midweek Copa del Rey first round matches, including Valencia’s game against Parla Escuela, had already been postponed.
A moment of silence for the flood victims will be observed at matches throughout Spain this weekend, including the Catalan derby between league leaders Barcelona and Espanyol on Sunday.
