The First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, has officially flagged off the 2025 Renewed Hope Initiative Agricultural Support Programme (RHI‑ASP), a grassroots-driven intervention aimed at boosting food security and empowering women, youths, and students across the state.

The event, held on Wednesday, July 30, at Lagos House, Ikeja, marked the commencement of the state’s participation in the national initiative championed by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, through the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI).

Four-Pronged Agricultural Support

The programme will be implemented under four components:

Women Agricultural Support Programme (WASP)

Youth Agricultural Support Programme (YASP)

Every Home a Garden (EHAG)

Young Farmers Club (YFC)

According to Dr. Sanwo-Olu, the intervention is designed to transform agriculture into a sustainable livelihood, particularly at the grassroots level. “Our goal is to strengthen food production, support economic independence and ensure that every home can contribute to food security,” she stated.

₦60m Disbursed to 260 Beneficiaries

A total of ₦60 million provided by the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security was disbursed during the event.

200 beneficiaries under WASP and YASP received ₦200,000 each, along with essential farming inputs.

60 beneficiaries in the EHAG category were each given ₦100,000 to support backyard gardening projects.

Over 120 students enrolled in the Young Farmers Club (YFC 2.0) from all six educational districts of Lagos were presented with farming kits, seeds, tools, branded uniforms, and gloves to promote early interest in agriculture.

All cash support was instantly credited to beneficiaries’ bank accounts, underscoring the programme’s transparency.

Sustaining Food Security

Dr. Sanwo-Olu expressed optimism that the initiative would not only empower participants economically but also strengthen the state’s food security agenda. She commended Senator Oluremi Tinubu for her vision and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture for their support.

The ceremony was attended by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Oluremi Hamzat, Commissioners for Agriculture, Education, Women Affairs, and Information, as well as senior state functionaries.

Chairman of the Lagos State Farmers Committee, Mr. Ayo Afuwape, lauded the First Lady for sustaining agricultural empowerment and highlighted the success of previous editions of RHI‑ASP.

A Pathway to Self-Reliance

With this launch, Lagos joins other states in advancing RHI’s mission to reduce hunger, promote home gardening, and create sustainable livelihoods for women and young people.

“Agriculture remains one of the strongest tools for economic independence and community development. Through RHI‑ASP, we are ensuring that no home is left behind in this drive,” Dr. Sanwo-Olu affirmed.
