The Lagos State Government has launched a 24-hour traffic management operation and started demolishing illegal structures across major roads to reduce congestion ahead of the Christmas season.

The initiative, tagged “Operation Ember Months Stability,” is being led by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) in partnership with other enforcement agencies. It is aimed at improving road safety and ensuring smooth vehicular movement during the festive period.

A Night Rapid Response Team has been introduced to handle emergencies such as vehicle breakdowns and accidents. Major routes under focus include the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway, Ikorodu Road, Lekki-Epe Corridor, and Agege Motor Road.

Over 250 illegal shanties and makeshift structures have already been cleared in Apapa, Ijora, and Costain, while abandoned vehicles are being removed to open up road space. The cleared areas will be handed over to LAMATA for integration into the state’s transport system.

Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the move was part of efforts to maintain order during the high-traffic season.

“We’re working round the clock to keep Lagos traffic moving smoothly and safely throughout the ember months,” he stated.

The government has urged residents, traders, and transport operators to cooperate with enforcement officers to sustain the initiative beyond the festive period. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
