The Lagos State Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to approve a new minimum wage of ₦150,000 for workers in the state, citing the rising cost of living and recent wage increases in Imo and Ebonyi States.

Lagos NLC Chairperson, Funmi Sesi, made the demand on Thursday, noting that the current ₦85,000 minimum wage no longer reflects the realities of accommodation, transportation, feeding, and utilities in the state. She emphasized that workers in Lagos deserve a wage that matches the economic challenges they face daily.

Sesi commended Governors Hope Uzodimma of Imo, who raised the minimum wage from ₦76,000 to ₦104,000, and Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi, who approved an increase from ₦70,000 to ₦90,000. She expressed optimism that Lagos would lead the way in setting a new benchmark, saying workers “deserve a better wage and decent working conditions commensurate with the realities of the time.”
