Lagos Taskforce Cracks Down on Market and Transport Nuisances Ahead of Yuletide

The Lagos State Taskforce on Environmental and Special Offences has issued a stern warning to transport and market unions to halt activities that cause environmental nuisances and disrupt traffic ahead of the Yuletide season.

Chairman CSP Tayo Akerele, speaking at a stakeholder meeting in Oshodi, emphasized that the Taskforce will enforce a zero-tolerance policy under laws such as the 2017 Environmental Law and the 2018 Transport Sector Reform Law. Violations like illegal structures, street trading, unregulated okada operations, and poor sanitation will not be tolerated.

Union representatives pledged support for the initiative but asked that enforcement be carried out “with a human face.” Residents were also urged to report illegal activities via the Taskforce’s hotlines 090137555111 and 090138555111.

The enforcement drive aims to ensure smooth traffic flow, better sanitation, and public safety during the busy festive period. Visit www.jocomms.com for more news.
