Lagos to Introduce Paid Parking System in 2026

The Lagos State Government will launch a paid parking system in 2026 as part of efforts to reduce traffic congestion across the city.

The initiative, managed by the Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA), aims to curb indiscriminate parking, a major cause of gridlock that costs the city an estimated ₦4 trillion annually.

To support the plan, Lagos has signed an MoU with tech firms Automat and i-Cell to introduce a digital parking system that allows motorists to find, book, and pay for parking spaces electronically.

The state has already created 3,941 new parking slots in key areas and will begin stricter enforcement against illegal parking by July 2025 ahead of the rollout.

Officials say the move will bring order to Lagos roads, improve traffic flow, and promote efficient use of urban space. Details on pricing and coverage zones are expected to be announced closer to the 2026 launch.
