The Lagos State Government has launched a comprehensive Commuter Perception Survey aimed at improving public transport services and shaping long-term mobility policies across the state.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Lagos Bureau of Statistics in collaboration with the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) and the Lagos Ferry Services Company (LAGFERRY), seeks to gather residents’ experiences and opinions on the state’s various transport systems including road, rail, and water services.
According to the government, the survey will capture vital feedback from commuters using BRT corridors, the Red and Blue Rail Lines, and ferry routes, among others. Trained coordinators, supervisors, and enumerators have been deployed across the state to engage residents directly and collect accurate data.
The Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Mr. Ope George, stated that the survey’s findings would play a crucial role in guiding resource allocation, transport infrastructure planning, and policy evaluation. He emphasized that data-driven insights are essential to improving public mobility and ensuring sustainable urban transport growth.
The project is part of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s THEMES Plus Agenda, which prioritizes transportation and traffic management as key pillars of Lagos’ development strategy.
Officials say the outcome of the survey will help identify service gaps, enhance commuter satisfaction, and strengthen coordination between transport agencies to create a more efficient and inclusive mobility system.
