Lookman Rules Out Premier League Return as Napoli, Atletico Madrid Lead Transfer Race

Ademola Lookman’s future appears to lie away from the Premier League, with the Super Eagles forward reportedly ruling out a return to England this summer — handing Napoli and Atletico Madrid a key advantage in the race for his signature.

Despite long-standing interest from Arsenal and a recent approach from West Ham, transfer expert Matteo Moretto revealed on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel that the Atalanta star is not keen on coming back to England.

“The player does not want to return to the Premier League,” Moretto said.

“But much will depend on the offers that come in.”

Napoli are seen as frontrunners should Victor Osimhen’s departure be completed soon, while Atletico Madrid are actively pursuing the 27-year-old to bolster their attack following Ángel Correa’s exit. Moretto confirmed that Atletico are in regular contact with Atalanta, especially after recent discussions over Matteo Ruggeri helped reopen communication between the two clubs.

“Atletico Madrid are very interested and continue to monitor the situation carefully,” he added.

Atalanta are demanding €50 million for Lookman — a valuation that only a select group of clubs may be able or willing to meet. Arsenal, for instance, have reportedly balked at the Italian club’s asking price, with The Athletic reporting that the Gunners are only prepared to go as high as £43 million. Their top target remains Real Madrid’s Rodrygo, who is said to view a move to the Emirates as a priority if terms can be agreed with Los Blancos.

Lookman, who previously had spells with Everton, Fulham, and Leicester City, registered 17 goal involvements in 96 Premier League appearances. However, his breakout form at Atalanta — capped by a Europa League final hat-trick — has significantly elevated his value and reputation across Europe.

While Arsenal and West Ham may yet attempt to convince him otherwise, Lookman’s preference for staying on the continent strengthens Napoli and Atletico’s positions. With both clubs ready to act and Atalanta holding firm on their price, the race for the Nigerian winger is set to intensify in the coming days.
