Lookman, Troost-Ekong Shortlisted for 2024 CAF Player of the Year Award

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the nominees for the 2024 CAF Player of the Year award, building excitement ahead of the awards ceremony set for December 16, 2024, in Marrakech, Morocco.

Among the 10 nominees are Super Eagles stars Ademola Lookman and William Troost-Ekong, leading the race for Africa’s top individual football honor.

Also shortlisted are Amine Gouiri (Algeria), Edmond Tapsoba (Burkina Faso / Bayer Leverkusen), Simon Adingra (Côte d’Ivoire / Brighton & Hove Albion), Chancel Mbemba (DR Congo / Olympique de Marseille), Serhou Guirassy (Guinea / Borussia Dortmund), Achraf Hakimi (Morocco / Paris Saint-Germain), Soufiane Rahimi (Morocco / Al Ain), and Ronwen Williams (South Africa / Mamelodi Sundowns).

In the Goalkeeper of the Year category, Super Eagles shot-stopper Stanley Nwabali is among the nominees. The Chippa United goalkeeper impressed with strong performances during the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and is currently one of the top-rated goalkeepers in the South African league.

The CAF Coach of the Year category highlights the best-performing coaches from the 2023 AFCON, with ten nominees vying for the award. CAF also unveiled nominees for National Team of the Year, Club of the Year, and Young Player of the Year, the latter recognizing standout talents under the age of 21.

Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen was crowned CAF African Player of the Year in 2023, while Asisat Oshoala claimed the Women’s Player of the Year title.
