Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu says his team will take “nothing for granted” when they host the Benin Republic in the second leg of their 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier on Tuesday in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Nigeria hold a 2–0 lead from the first leg in Lomé, thanks to goals from Chinwendu Ihezuo and Esther Okoronkwo. However, Madugu insists the job is far from done.
“We expect a tough game from the Beninoise, but we’re fully prepared,” Madugu said in a statement released by the Nigeria Football Federation. “Our goal is to qualify for WAFCON 2026, defend our title, and then push for a place at the 2027 World Cup in Brazil.”
He warned against complacency, noting that Benin fielded around 10 foreign-based players from Germany, Morocco, France, and Equatorial Guinea in the first leg.
“Underrating any team in Africa now is dangerous,” he added. “We’re not leaving anything to chance. We’ll go all out for victory.”
Likely Lineup and Key Options
Madugu is expected to stick with a similar squad to the first leg. Chiamaka Nnadozie should start in goal, with Michelle Alozie, Osinachi Ohale, Tosin Demehin, and Ashley Plumptre in defence.
Midfield duties will likely be handled by captain Rasheedat Ajibade, Deborah Abiodun, and Taiwo Afolabi, while Ihezuo, Okoronkwo, and Folashade Ijamilusi are expected to lead the attack.
Experienced forward Asisat Oshoala, along with Joy Omewa and Kafayat Mafisere, could also be called upon if needed.
