Youth advocate and son of Nigeria’s president, Seyi Tinubu, expressed his sympathy for the people of Borno State on Friday in response to the devastating floods that recently affected Maiduguri, the state capital.

Accompanied by his brother, friends, and associates, Seyi made a generous donation exceeding ₦500 million on behalf of his supporters. He emphasized that this visit marks the beginning of efforts to alleviate the hardships faced by young people impacted by the disaster.

Seyi assured that their support would continue until Maiduguri and Borno State fully recover. He highlighted that President Bola Tinubu and other dignitaries had visited Borno earlier in the week to show solidarity with its residents.

During his visit, Seyi addressed Governor Babagana Zulum and other key officials at the state government house, acknowledging the resilience of Borno’s people despite past challenges. He expressed hope that the state would emerge stronger from this crisis.

“We are here today, not just as representatives of our family but as part of a collective effort by young Nigerians to bring hope and relief to those in need. This moment calls for solidarity, compassion, and immediate action,” Seyi stated.

“Maiduguri and Borno State have rich histories. The people have shown remarkable resilience despite the hardships of recent years, which is why they deserve our collective support, prayers, and active collaboration during this painful time.”

He mentioned that following his father’s call for support, he, alongside his wife Layal, the Noella Foundation, his brother Yinka, and various private sector partners, swiftly mobilized to assist those displaced by the floods.

The donations included food items such as spaghetti, tomato paste, groundnut oil, flour, rice, and thousands of loaves of bread, along with essential supplies like mosquito nets, blankets, mattresses, and sanitary kits. Critical medical supplies for nearly 50,000 individuals were also provided, covering a range of prescriptions.

Seyi expressed gratitude to Governor Zulum for his leadership during the crisis, stating, “Your Excellency, distinguished leaders, and the resilient people of Borno State, in times of hardship, it is our shared responsibility to stand together. Our supplies today are a small gesture of solidarity, hoping to bring some comfort to those affected.”

He concluded with a message of unity: “The Nigerian youth stand shoulder to shoulder with the people of Borno. Together, we can rebuild and heal. Just as President Bola Tinubu said earlier this week, Borno will rise again.”

Chidi, a transport and logistics expert accompanying Seyi, praised his dedication to young Nigerians, while renowned aviator Isaac Balami highlighted Seyi’s empathy and commitment to supporting youth in the country.
