Malik Ado-Ibrahim, former presidential candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) in the 2023 elections, has called for a major reshuffle of President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet. Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics show, Ado-Ibrahim argued that the current team surrounding President Tinubu has failed to translate his vision into reality, urging for a fresh approach in leadership.
Ado-Ibrahim suggested that the president’s cabinet, as it stands, has become ineffective and outdated. “Most of what the president has, as far as his cabinet is concerned, should be refreshed. They’re done,” the YPP chieftain remarked. He emphasized the need for new leadership to instil confidence in the public and push forward President Tinubu’s agenda.
In his opinion, the leadership team requires more than just political appointments. “You need an administrator,” Ado-Ibrahim stated, highlighting the importance of competent, result-driven individuals in key positions. He pointed out that while knowledge is important, it is not enough to assume that those currently in power possess the necessary skills to implement the president’s plans.
He continued, “There is no knowledge that you can have and just assume that nobody else has it. They’re smarter people than I. I just have an opinion. So my opinion is, yes, he needs to freshen up this [cabinet]. He needs to give people more confidence.”
Ado-Ibrahim further explained that President Tinubu should prioritize surrounding himself with capable administrators who can implement well-structured plans, rather than merely appointing individuals to posts without ensuring they have the requisite skills.
This critique comes as Tinubu’s administration faces growing pressure over its ability to address the country’s pressing issues. While the president has promised reforms, Ado-Ibrahim believes that a cabinet overhaul is necessary to achieve tangible results.
